I was invited recently to speak on Sunday morning at a venue that was new to me. Lovely group of believers gathering for fellowship as so many people do. After the message one of the congregants came up to me and said, “sure do like the way you explain things…I just don’t read my bible, because it just goes over my head.” A comment meant for a compliment, and received that way, yet also a commentary of the state of believers generally. I want to encourage us today. I want us to take the bible out, dust it off, and open the possibilities that it holds in each of our lives.
First It is Power!
As a believer we have a set of years in our earthly journey, yet our destiny is eternity. When we begin salvations path in relationship with Holy Spirit we need deliverance from our sin, our weaknesses, our situations, our fears and ourselves. The power to see those things come to fruition in our lives is by aligning our heart, mind, will and emotions with the one who created us, not with the world that surrounds us. For that to happen we need internal help from the Eternal God Himself. We need some supernatural power! For which the Book of Hebrews provides and answer…
Hebrews 4:12 “for the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Second it is Jesus – The Resurrected Christ!
The Gospel according to John opens with, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (vs1) John capitalized the “W” as he is associating Word with Jesus – a title – a proper name. Jesus is the embodiment of the Word of God. Jesus was heaven communicating to earth a Kingdom expression that our minds could comprehend. Jesus was there in the Genesis 1 creation story when God created by saying “…let there be…” And there was. This is humanities creation story – by words spoken mankind was to be image bearers of creation with Jesus as our example. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us...” John 1:14. We cannot bear the image of the savior when we do not know His Word!
Third – It Holds Revelation Life!
Revelation 10:13. “He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.”
The Living, Victorious Christ is described in the book of Revelation, (Which coincidentally the full title of that book is “The Revelation of The Christ”) as John described Him. His victory was over your sin, absolutely, but it was so much more than that. His victory provides for us access to the Father and the Revelation of His Kingdom that we must tap into.
Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision the people perish.” (KJV) The word “vision” means prophetic revelation – heavenly revelation from the Living God as to our purposes and His plans for us in the Redemption story. The creator of the universe knows your story. He knows your heights and your lows, your dark places and your shining moments. He also knows things about you that you do not see, and he wants to show you things that you cannot comprehend! Resurrected Christ brings Revelation Life to every believer. And every believer is called to be New Creation identity in the Word of God.
Fourth – It is The Perfect Prayer!
How do we pray? Teach us to Pray? Do we pray for our trials, troubles, concerns? Do we pray for others? Our nation? Our world? Yes, and Amen to all those things. But sometimes presenting a list before the Creator of the universe can become a dry task. Sometimes our human words seem to fall short of what our heart and soul want to say. When we encounter that, we can always pray the scripture. What a phenomenal option to pray the words of life back to the one who gave them. For Example:
Prayer is needed for guidance in a situation…One Verse!
Psalm 25:5 says “Lead me in your truth and teach me for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.”
Let’s pray it:
Father
“Lead me in your truth” – you know the path before me and I trust your hand upon my life, lead me in that trust…
“teach me” - show me, reveal to me an experience of you as I learn to walk in your ways and see where Your Spirit is leading and guide my heart to hear your voice.
“You are the God of my salvation” – my deliverer, my rescuer, and my helper. My welfare is your concern and my freedom to know you was purchased on The Cross.
“I wait all day long” - your steadfast love, numbers my steps and orders my day, open my eyes to see and move and worship you in Spirit and in truth.
Fifth – It’s History – His Story!
I Love A Good Book! Especially when I find an author that can write a sentence or paragraph that makes me stop, just to appreciate what I just read. Most often when I am reading, I begin to see the characters in my imagination and the whole thing plays out in my head like a movie. The book, the characters, the story have a life of its own and I get to encounter it all for a moment in time. Maybe I can identify with one of the characters and perhaps learn something from their part in the grand scheme. A good book will change you in some way. My perceptions and perspectives are tested as I read the lines of a good storyteller. This is a fact of life, I’d even say a law of nature.
Words are important and we are to steward them well…The ones we read, the ones we write and the ones we speak. Gods’ redemption plan for humanity. From “In the beginning” to the last “Amen” are at our fingertips everyday. We are partakers of the greatest story ever told. By invitation of the Author of our very existence. Pick up your bible, read a verse, ask a question, seek an answer, knock on heavens door and fall in love with “The Word” in a new way!
I decree New Revelation is headed your way, In Jesus Name!
